How to find the perfect massage therapist

Since the pandemic, many therapists chose to close their doors or leave the profession, leaving clients without a trustworthy, knowledgeable, reliable massage therapist. While there’s certainly nothing wrong with going with whichever random therapist happens to be on deck at your local massage therapy chain, finding a trusted therapist whose specialty can really address your specific needs will be a far more satisfying and healing experience.

The first step is knowing what to expect from a regular massage therapy session. Once you have the basics down, the second step is searching for the right massage therapist get the most out of your massage.

Because choosing the right technique and therapist for you often go hand in hand (pun totally intended), knowing what kind of massage you are looking for is helpful. There are many types of massage therapy designed to provide different types of relief – whether it’s for minor relaxation or deep tissue work. Here at Massage Harrisburg, we tend to specialize in techniques that provide pain relief. You can find a list of just some of the techniques that we offer here.

No massage is one size fits all - the same goes with techniques. If you are brand new to getting a massage, the best way to figure out which type of massage you like is by trying various techniques and remembering which ones you prefer. Your massage therapist can also be a great resource for recommending certain massage therapy techniques, depending on your lifestyle and current health.

Once you have done your research and chosen a therapist, it’s important to think about what you want from the experience in advance.  Massage therapists work best with feedback from the client - if we don’t know something should be different, it will never be different! The more we know, the better we can tailor our work to fit each person’s unique needs (and likes). Ask as many questions as you can, and always feel free to provide feedback during the massage about what you like and when you feel uncomfortable.

Above and beyond anything else, your therapist should make you feel comfortable, provide good information, give a massage that addresses your pain and offers an all-around fantastic experience. If they don’t, it’s time to search for a new therapist!
